In the recent Mid-American Wine Competition held at the Iowa Culinary Institute in Des Moines, Iowa. Alto Vineyards received 2 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze medals. The 2003 Chambourcin received a Gold Medal as well as the 2004 Chambourcin was voted Best of Class, thus receiving a Gold Medal and earning one of the competition's highest honors, just less than a Best of Show. “The quality of the wines from the Midwest was very impressive” commented lead judge Doug Frost of Kansas City. He noted, “It conclusively demonstrated that the Midwest is making top notch wines.”

Our family owned winery and vineyard is located in the foothills of the beautiful Shawnee National Forest in Southern Illinois. Our second tasting room in Champaign, Illinois, not far from the University of Illinois campus, opened in December of 2001. Since our first vintage in 1988, our wines have won numerous medals in National and International wine competitions. Our family takes great pride in growing high quality grapes and producing award winning wines.
